Fabulous First Aid!

Despite the chilly morning we all got a very warm welcome from Philip our very experienced first aid trainer. The course was taken in a friendly and yet professional way. In a relaxed manner we all learnt new skills or updated and polished up some very dusty ones!
Philip designed the course especially for our group and focused on first aid that would be particularly useful for home and everyday situations that we may encounter. Every topic taught us why as well how, to treat each situation.
Right from the start we were involved, with questions, practical demonstrations and an opportunity to practise or try out our skills, especially with regards to bandaging, dressings and slings! A couple of us even got to have a lie down whilst being taught how to treat shock and the recovery position.
Even though the course was short, only 2.5 hours, we all came away with an increased knowledge of how to :-
Treat a person with shock, burns, choking, seizures, stroke, minor and major injuries.
Assessing and treating a patient including using AMPLE questions!
D.R.A.B.C, opening an airway and recovery position.
CPR was briefly demonstrated at the end of the course.
So no matter what our previous level of experience was before the course, we all left with much improved skills and confidence in using first aid.
Although we all hope very much never to have to use it!
